5 Reasons To Remove Trees Before Spring

Posted on: 9 February 2022

When it comes to tree removal, certain seasons can be more ideal. Believe it or not, late winter is one of those ideal seasons. Warming weather and sunny days make it a good time to work outside. There are other reasons to consider winter tree removal, as well.

1. Less Mess

Trees in full leaf make quite the mess during the removal process. Even removing the trees in early spring when they are doing little more than flowering is messy, since the pollen is going to get spread everywhere when the technicians are taking down the tree. Although your tree service will take pains to clean up afterwards, the entire ordeal is much more difficult in spring. Remove trees in winter when there is no sap flow and no messy leaves on the tree.

2. Easier Access

The lack of leaves also makes the removal job easier for the tree technicians. Not only can they better see the shape and form of your tree, which allows them to more accurately plan the removal, they can also access the tree more easily with their equipment. The result is a job done more quickly and more safely thanks to the season.

3. Minimal Disturbance

One sometimes overlooked concern with spring and summer tree removal is that the tree may be home to local wildlife. Nesting birds and squirrels may not be able to evacuate the tree when it comes down. In winter you won't have to worry about nesting animals or returning birds. Less wildlife is disturbed when the trees are removed before the weather begins to warm.

4. Blowdown Prevention

April showers may bring May flowers, but they also often bring high winds and hail. Damaged and dead trees are more likely to suffer damage in these storms. Limbs can come crashing down on your roof or even on someone below. In some cases, the entire tree could be at risk of blowing down in a severe storm. Remove the tree before the stormy season arrives to avoid unnecessary risks.

5. Fewer Spread Worries

Pests and diseases, if not the direct cause of tree death, are often an indirect result. Fortunately, nearly all pests and most organisms that cause disease are dormant during the winter months. By removing the tree at this time you will also be removing the problems pests before they have a chance to move on to another landscape tree once spring arrives.
