4 Things To Consider Before Cutting Down A Tree In Pieces

Posted on: 17 August 2016

If you have a tree in your backyard that you want to cut down, but it is in a difficult to reach location, you may be able to have the tree cut down in pieces by an individual logger instead of cut down with traditional tree equipment or chopped down in one large piece. Here is a few things to consider before cutting a tree down in pieces yourself or hiring someone to do so.

#1 Are There Branches That Someone Could Stand On?

If your tree is taller than a traditional ladder, in order to cut your tree down piece by piece, a tree cutter is going to need to climb your tree and cut it down piece by piece while standing in the tree. In order to do this, there needs to be strong, sturdy branches for the tree cutter to stand on in multiple places as they make their way down the tree. Check and see if your tree has strong branches that an individual could potentially stand on.

#2 Could The Main Branches Be Removed Methodically?

When cutting a tree down in pieces, the cutting has to be done in a methodical manner. One large branch needs to come down at a time, or even be cut up into smaller pieces before moving onto the next main branch. A tree cutter has to be able to methodically work their way through your tree in order to cut it down in pieces.

#3 Can A Ladder Be Leaned Against The Tree?

Generally, in order to get into your tree, a tree cutter would need to be able to lean a ladder against your tree and use that to assist them with climbing up and getting into your tree in the first place. You need a good place for them to place the ladder or you need to create a good place for a ladder to go for the tree cutter to use.

#4 Are There Obstacles In The Way That Falling Branches Could Land On?

Finally, when you have a tree cut down piece by piece, you need to make sure that you don't have any obstacles that you can't move or afford to fix in the way. The tree branches will fall out of the tree as the tree cutter cuts them down, you need to make sure that they have space to fall without injuring anyone or anything.

If you feel that your tree is a good candidate to be cut down piece-by-piece, contact a few local tree cutting companies, such as Lakes Tree Service LLC, and see if any offer this service in your area.
